Our Dogology Philosophy
Dogology was created in what we believe to be our dog ideology; the ideal that our canine companions deserve the very best.
All of us at Dogology have our own beloved pets, so we understand the desire to research, find and give your pets the best knowledge, products, and services available. Our pets have different nutritional and behavioral needs, and we know your pet has its own unique story. We can help you discover the best choices for your dogs and cats.
Like people, pets are what they eat. The foods you will find here at Dogology are the pinnacle of pet nutrition. We recognize the importance of selling locally sourced and humanely raised products. We have hand-selected each item, and we will never sell you a product we would not use with our own pets. We promise that our pricing will always be fair and honest, and everything we sell is thoroughly tested and highly recommended by our own pets and families.
At Dogology, we know that for your pet to lead a healthy and fulfilled life, we must examine each pet's life in its entirety. Knowing that nutrition and behavior are interrelated in your pet's health, we use a "Whole Dog" approach in our recommendations to you. This means we offer you a diverse range of options, services, and knowledge for the benefit of your pet. We provide award-winning Puppy daycare & puppy playgroups in our Canton location to nurture appropriate social development and new-puppy consults with our Puppy Experts™ in both Canton and Avon locations to help you learn each critical facets of making a healthy, happy dog.
Sometimes, higher quality foods and services may appear to cost more upfront, but species-appropriate foods and tailored training can greatly enhance and lengthen the life of your cherished pet. In reality, words like "cheap" and "easy" often end up meaning "expensive" and "time-consuming." Bringing this information to light requires only a little knowledge and the desire to give your pets the healthy life they deserve.
The team at Dogology has years of experience in our chosen professions, and we will continue to learn while sharing our wealth of knowledge with you and your pets. We want Dogology to be a community of people who are learning from and teaching each other and helping to create the ultimate life for our canine and feline friends.

Meet the founders of Dogology:
Nutritional & Wellness

Marissa Squires with River
Meet Marissa, a passionate advocate for canine well-being whose life has truly ‘gone to the dogs’. In 2007, while working in the finance industry, Marissa sensed a profound disconnect with her career. Driven by a lifelong love for dogs, she decided to pivot toward a more fulfilling path.
Starting from a position in the veterinary field, she progressed to become a veterinary technician and earn a degree in canine massage therapy from the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage.
Marissa's knowledge of canine well-being continued to evolve when she joined Dr. Corey Shagensky at Progressive Animal Wellness. Here, alongside traditional veterinary medicine, she broadened her knowledge of a holistic-minded approach to canine health.
Passionate about making a difference and knowing she could utilize her skills for the greater good, Marissa founded New England Puppy Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing neglected puppies abandoned in high-kill shelters and giving them the second chance they deserve. Specializing in under-aged and orphaned puppies, the rescue ensures a comprehensive approach providing health, well-being, and socialization plans for a successful start in new homes.
In 2013, Marissa opened Dogology, providing her knowledge and tools to create the healthiest lives for pets. Her dedication extends beyond her professional endeavors; she actively engages in animal advocacy and volunteered on the front lines at an animal hospital on the Poland-Ukraine border in March 2022. She triaged the injured and abandoned dogs from the war and brought two suitcases full of donated supplies, earning her a state citation for her impactful work. Marissa doesn't just advocate for dogs; she lives her commitment.
Residing in Windsor, CT, with her partner Jamie McDonald, owner of Bear's Smokehouse BBQ, Marissa's home is a haven for foster dogs and three permanent rescues. Here, they enjoy frequent massages, top-notch food, and the occasional indulgence in some leftover BBQ.

Frances Schroeder with a foster puppy
Meet Frances, who has devoted almost two decades to specializing in pet food retail and animal nutrition. Her expertise began at places like The Pet Route and WAGS, where she cultivated a deep understanding of the industry that led her to co-found Dogology.
Frances's journey into the realm of animal wellness and nutrition began with a personal experience. When her adopted border collie, Ella, developed severe allergies to conventional dry dog food, Frances sought alternatives beyond the standard prescription vet food. Her independent research uncovered a wealth of information on homeopathic remedies and natural diets, inspiring her mission to make this knowledge accessible to all who strive to provide their dogs with a healthier life.
Known for her meticulous knowledge of every product in the store, Frances relies on her trusty food samplers—Poppy, 17, Brody, 7, Bee, 2, Polly, 2, and long-term medical foster Levi, 18 months and counting—to rigorously taste-test and endorse each one.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Frances's home is a lively sanctuary for dogs. In addition to her five rescues, the family welcomes a continuous stream of foster pups, creating a dog-centric environment where love, care, and top-notch nutrition are constant priorities. Frances's dedication extends far beyond the retail space, reflecting her unwavering commitment to ensuring dogs lead the healthy lives they truly deserve.
